Artist Mission StatementChoate's art is for everyone, and she believe that “life doesn’t live forever so neither should art”. Her work focuses on creating art that anyone can appreciate and enjoy.
In general the art world ignores the disabled. Choate want to change that. Her work specifically embraces and allows disabled individuals to participate with the work. It is very important to share Choate's story and her family’s story with a focus on disability, through her work. It focuses on their shared genetic and physical history. Her work is about embodying feelings and wearing emotions. She shows interior elements, both physical and emotional, on the exterior of the body. |

STORIES REGARDING DISABILITES
Marisa Lynn Choate is collecting personal stories that involve disabilities somehow from both people with and without disabilities. It can be any story involving any sort of disability from an interaction with a stranger to a personal struggle with a disability or anything else that is significant to you. Marisa believes that everyone has a story to share and would like you to share yours using the form below. She is also interested in personal interactions with those proving submissions, therefore, she may reach out to you if you provide your contact information. Marisa's goal is 1000 stories, so please share this with others who might be willing to participate! Marisa is translating the stories into braille and rewriting them with white pencil on white paper. Then she is weaving the paper stories together and will invite the public to touch the sculpture to discover the stories. Marisa believes disability needs to be talked about and have a voice in art. |
